Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our Pharmacy team at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust to manage and lead on the development of the various Pharmacy IT Systems. 

Main duties of the job

  • To lead on the day-to-day troubleshooting of IT in the department
  • To liaise with the Epic team, acting as a Pharmacy representative
  • To support the business and finance functions of the pharmacy department in the production of reports as required and supporting the monthly End of Month Reclaim process.
  • To take a lead on the management of the Dispensing Robot, Mediwell and Temperature Monitoring Systems.
  • Under the support of the Lead Pharmacy Technicians be responsible for implementing processes to promote efficient stock control in the department.
  • ·         To support the Procurement team when required in procuring medicines in an effective and efficient manner

    • Actively promote and encourage accurate stock control in the pharmacy department.
    • To ensure technology associated with pharmacy is well managed and maintained and required reports and data extraction occurs in a timely and accurate manner.
    • To actively help ensure that Purchasing, Distribution, Homecare and Finance areas interface harmoniously, working closely together.
  • Assist in the line management of junior Pharmacy Technicians, ATOs and students

Experience

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Services and BTEC (or equivalent)
  • Registered (Or imminently registering) with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Experience of data gathering, handling, validation and reporting
  • Knowledge of continuing professional development
  • Knowledge of data protection and patient/staff confidentiality
  • Experience of training on new systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Remain professional at all times
  • Motivated and enthusiastic
  • Ability to analyse data relevant to role and make suitable recommendations or actions.
  • Problem solving of complex issues where there may be a number of courses of action
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines and work accurately under pressure
  • Good written and verbal English
  • Excellent Team Player
  • Knowledge of computer based stock control, dispensing systems and associated technology
  • Excellent health and attendance record
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Commissioning in the NHS
  • Experience of working in a hospital pharmacy
  • Experience or knowledge of Hospital electronic prescribing systems
  • An understanding of NHSE High Cost Drugs and its reclaim process
  • An understanding of freedom of information requests
