Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician Band 5 (fixed term 12 months)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician to work at Birmingham Women’s Hospital site. The post holder should have experience of providing a ward based Pharmacy service, be an excellent communicator and committed to providing the best service for our patients and families. The post holder will be based in the Pharmacy Department at the Birmingham Women’s Hospital site but may be required to support services on the Birmingham Children’s Hospital site. 

Main duties of the job

Main duties will include:

  • To support the medicines management service across the specialist areas and wards at BW hospital, carrying out medicines reconciliation, assessing patients own drugs, ordering medication, counselling patients and facilitating timely discharge of patients
  • To support and participate in the ordering, dispensing and accuracy checking of parenteral nutrition and in other specialist areas duties to maintain core skills
  • To support in the day to day management of Controlled Drugs
  • To support the department with KPI and CQUIN targets as required
  • To lead on Safe & Secure Storage audits & other audits
  • To support the training of new staff, rotational Pharmacy Technicians, Pre-registration Pharmacists and Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technicians
  • To support with service improvements across the department
  • Working in collaboration with teams across all sites.

Applicants will hold a valid BTEC & NVQ Level 3 Pharmaceutical Science Certificate and be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

  • Medicines Management Experience providing ward based services
  • Experience of working in a hospital pharmacy

  • Experience of supervision and training other pharmacy staff
