Job overview

As a breast screening service actively catering for an eligible population of 175,000 within North, East and West Birmingham, Sandwell & Walsall area, we are energetically engaged in several key national breast trials. The breast unit is looking to expand through lateral growth to incorporate new technologies such as CESM and ABUS alongside current technologies such as tomography.

We are seeking a hardworking and dedicated clinical specialist mammographer to  join our breast care team. To assist in the management of the Mammography service and also to undertake appropriate advanced practice to agreed standards for the division and NHSBSP.

The post holder will assist with the day-to-day operational management of the Breast service and will deputise in the absence of Senior Management. They will have responsibility towards the Quality Management System and will be expected to have specialist knowledge in mammography, working at Advanced Practice level, to include undertaking symptomatic and screening mammography, image interpretation, ultrasound and biopsies.

The successful candidate will operate within, organise and supervise service provision in both the Breast Assessment and the mobile Mammography Units.

Trainee applicants may be considered if two post graduate certificates in Advanced Practice/Mammography have been awarded.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Specialist Mammographer will undertake Stereotactical procedures, Ultrasound and Image Interpretation by liaising and undertaking clinical procedures with the guidance from our highly skilled clinical team in the breast unit. 

You will be an expert in all areas of associated breast  procedures, as outlined in the job description and person specification, adhering to agreed protocols and standards. Also providing written reports after synthesising patient history seeking a second opinion where necessary to operate. 

Responsibilities will also include assisting in the management of the Mammography service as directed by the Programme Manager/Superintendent Radiographers. To undertake appropriate advanced practice to agreed standards for the division and NHSBSP.

Essential criteria
  • DCR or BSc(Hons) Radiography
  • Certificate of Competence in Mammography
  • Film Interpretation Course at Masters level
  • Post graduate course in Stereotactic needle core biopsy at Masters level
  • Post graduate course in Breast ultrasound at masters level
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised training certificate
  • Post graduate qualification in management

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Specialist expertise underpinned by theory and extensive practical experience
