Job overview

An exciting opportunity exists with Surgical Services for a Ward Clerk to support the nursing staff on the Ophthalmic Inpatient and Day Surgery Unit. 

We are seeking to appoint an individual who is motivated and dynamic with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, to work closely with the Multidisciplinary Team and explore the development of the role to its full potential.

**We would welcome applications from candidates who do not hold Business Administrator Level 3 as this could be offered during employment**

Main duties of the job

The Ward Clerk provides essential administrative and clerical support to the staff on the Ophthalmic Unit.

This post consists of a variety of tasks which includes patients admissions and discharges; managing medical records, scheduling hospital appointments and communicating with patients and their families.

In essence, the ward clerk play a vital role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the Ophthalmic Unit, supporting both patients, relatives, nursing & medical staff in their daily activities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing a clerical support to medical and nursing staff at ward level.

To have a responsible outlook in order to cope with the unpredictable nature of ward activity, using prioritising skills and discretion to organise a daily workload to take account of deadlines and degrees of urgency.

Previous admin experience and a knowledge of iPM/Lorenzo would be advantageous.
