Job overview
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, innovative, and forward-thinking ophthalmologist to join our Glaucoma team at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre (BMEC). This is a substantive post aimed at supporting and further developing our expanding Glaucoma services.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in Glaucoma and be committed to advancing both medical and surgical aspects of care in this subspecialty. Applicants should also possess advanced cataract surgery skills and have experience in performing glaucoma surgery.
We welcome applications from individuals looking to broaden their expertise in Glaucoma. In addition, BMEC offers an Ophthalmic Local Training (OLT) programme, which we actively encourage our doctors to pursue where appropriate.
Post will close early if enough suitable applications are received
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will join a team of six substantive Glaucoma consultants and will be expected to play an active role in the management of both medical and surgical Glaucoma. You will be involved in the care of a diverse patient population and contribute to the education of medical students, junior doctors, and optometrists.
The Glaucoma department at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre (BMEC) operates across multiple hospital sites, delivering outpatient services at both Sandwell and BMEC. Inpatient and day case procedures are currently performed at BMEC, located on the City Health Campus site.
While this post does not include an on-call commitment, the post holder may be required to participate in evening sessions within the BMEC Emergency Department as needed.
Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to provide specialist Glaucoma advice to other ophthalmic subspecialties during routine working hours.
