Job overview
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and reliable person to join our innovative, forward-thinking pain service.
The service covers all aspects of pain management and key responsibilities will include:
- Acute pain ward rounds
- Pain MDT clinics
- Teaching
- Audit and research
The ideal candidate will be a first level nurse, Band 6, with at least two years' recent experience in an acute environment and working with patients with specific pain management needs.
You will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as be able to demonstrate experience of dealing with people from a variety of backgrounds. Evidence of teaching skills is also essential.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will work with the Clinical Nurse Specialists and Clinical Lead Nurse for Pain Management across the Trust to ensure that all patients, relatives and staff have access to speciality care support during the patient pathway.
The post holder will work towards the development of the service in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Specialist, Clinical Lead Nurse , Clinicians and other service users.
The post holder will contribute to influencing all aspects of care and management of patients within the speciality.
The post holder will promote the delivery of high quality, clinically effective care, prioritising and utilising research in every day practice.
The post holder will provide specialist advice and plan the management of patients with complex care needs. In addition they will equip the primary carer with the required skills and knowledge, so that the highest standards of care can be made available to the maximum number of patients.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable clinical experience
- Experience of working with patients with specific pain management needs
- Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality patient care
- Knowledge and understanding of nursing/clinical audit
- Able to set and monitor standards
- Clear understanding of the Specialist Nurse role
- An understanding of the issues surrounding nurses role expansion
