Job overview

Are you looking to take the next step into your career and make a difference in patient care?

It is an exciting time to join our Ward Based Pharmacy Team at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust as we have moved into our new home, Midland Metropolitan University Hospital!

We are looking for an exceptional, hard working Lead  Clinical Ward Services Technician with hospital ward and medicines management experience, to help lead the team of  Ward Based Technicians in delivering high quality,  medicines management pharmacy services to our patients and wards in our brand new hospital MMUH.

So, if you have what it takes, are innovative, ready to be challenged and can demonstrate assertiveness, coaching, mentoring skills whilst leading and managing a team and putting the patient at the heart of everything you do, then we want to hear from you!

Main duties of the job

The post holder must be a qualified Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician, registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

You will be required to complete our Ward Based Training programme.

You will be responsible for a group of technicians and have oversight of organising the medicines management and governance of a group of wards. This will involve drug history and reconciliation with patients, undertaking audits, directing and leading other staff, service forecasting and rota planning.

You will be supported to  become a line manager of a group of Technicians all at varying stages of their careers. The ability to deliver high quality care and contribute to the overall success of the team is essential.

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills; you must be flexible, reliable and conscientious and be able to work in a busy, but driven environment, which may be on any site in the Trust.  MMUH is an automated hospital with EPR and Automated Dispensing Cabinets, contribution to these systems will be required and previous experience is desirable.

Contribute to and coordinate rotas for ACT slots and maintain, develop standard operating procedures and training packs, undertake recruitment and interviews.

Working weekends and Bank holidays are a core part of the post and on a rota basis, currently 1 in 4 as part of our 7 day working pattern.  Adhere to rota for ACT final checking slots and helping the dispensaries at the end of day.

Working for our organisation

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWB) serves Birmingham and the Black Country – one of the country’s most culturally diverse areas. It’s a friendly and welcoming place – a place where you can belong, and a place where you can grow.

We care for our patients, we care about our population, and we care about our people.

Our values – Ambition, Respect and Compassion – are at the heart of who we are. They guide us every step of the way; how we work with each other, and how we look after our patients and their families; how we respect and value the rich diversity of our team and our community.

Our Trust has always aspired to be more than a hospital, more than a healthcare provider. Our purpose is to “Improve the Life Chances and Health Outcomes of our Population.” It is what inspires, drives, and unites us every day. It’s what makes us unique.

We want working at SWB to feel like more than just a job. We want our Trust to be a place where you can feel you belong. A place where you feel happy, safe, and rewarded. A place where you can develop your career in whatever way you choose. When we say we’re ‘with you all the way’ we want you to know that we mean it. Visit the SWB website to find out more about our ambitions and people plans.
