Job overview
The Matron role requires the successful candidate to be a highly visible, competent, and responsive leader within their departments. They will work alongside and in collaboration with the Multidisciplinary team, clinical leads, and Deputy Group Director of nursing to deliver safe quality care efficiently and effectively to all our patients.
The successful candidate will be required to develop safe and effective pathways with an unclouded vision to improve the patient experience through continuous quality improvement to improve healthcare outcomes.
The post holder will work across several areas and the portfolio will consist of overseeing elective day cases units, pre-assessment units and a portfolio of theatres.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the Matron role are to provide operational leadership to the surgical teams, ensuring that quality and safety are maintained whilst delivering to our plan. This includes maintaining safety, assurance of quality and compliance with regulatory standards. The role is pivotal to ensuring our theatres are efficient and productive.
As Matron you will ensure the delivery of patient-centred care across your portfolio and will act as a clinical expert, providing guidance on procedures, safety protocols, and best practices whilst monitoring patient outcomes and implementing quality improvement plans when necessary.
You will lead and mentor a team of nurses and support staff , conduct appraisals, manage performance, identify development needs and oversee training and competency assessment to ensure high standards.
The Matron will also hold responsibility for managing budgets and will track financial performance to support the department's financial sustainability.
You will develop and implement policies that align with hospital and national healthcare guidelines and conduct regular audits to assess adherence to clinical standards, safety protocols, and legal requirements. Addressing issues arising from incident reports and patient feedback to improve service delivery.
