Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated and experienced individual to join our existing secretarial team at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. We currently have one position in Vascular Surgery based at Sandwell Health Campus.
Within our Trust, secretaries provide full secretarial support to consultants and their junior doctors, while also working together as a team.
You will provide an efficient and effective patient administration service to support the Trust’s ambition to deliver high quality well co-ordinated care for patients and service users and to support consultants and clinical teams to function effectively, through:
Main duties of the job
-You will Actively manage the administrative processes associated with patient pathways and contribute to the effectiveness of clinical teams (including patient experience, patient flow and waiting list management)
-You will Provide secretarial and administrative support to Consultants and clinical teams to support the delivery of high quality co-ordinated and integrated care, including liaison with patients, carers, GP’s and other service users.
-You will book appointments for patients on cancer pathway within National Targets and raising capacity issues with the Line Manager. Managing Trust dashboard and booking appointments appropriately.
-You will need to have Robust knowledge of IT systems and working with multiple systems at the same time.
-Excellent typing speed and grammar is desirable.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Substantial experience within the NHS
- Knowledge of waiting list / patient management systems.
- Knowledge of PAS systems and other relevant databases.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of managing 18 week pathway
- Cancer Services knowledge and/or experience
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE English and Maths grade C and above
- Excellent IT skills to include complex databases
- Evidence of relevant continuing professional development
- European computer driving licence qualification (ECDL)
- AMPSAR qualification or evidence of extensive knowledge of medical terminology.
Desirable criteria
- RSA Typing Level 2
- AMSPAR
- NVQ4 in a relevant subject to the role i.e. Business Administration or Leadership and Management or willingness to work towards

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
