Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, well motivated Audiologist who can help us to deliver a district wide Audiology service providing a comprehensive NHS hearing aid service to Adults and Children including those with complex needs, working in a multidisciplinary way with other services, Trusts, and agencies. The post holder will provide a range of diagnostic Audiology procedures and an Audiology support service to the Community Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Service and to the Acute Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Consultants in their respective Outpatient clinics.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, and motivation to learn and improve themselves, and so help drive the service forward.

The Audiology service is provided from within the Specialist Surgery Division of the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust and is delivered from its base in Brierley Hill Health and Social Care Centre.

 

 

 

Main duties of the job

The service is delivered district wide including a comprehensive NHS hearing aid service to both neonates, Children and Adults including those with complex needs. The service also provides the full range of diagnostic and rehabilitative Audiology procedures to a highly specialised level of expertise and an Audiology provision to the Community Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Service and to the Acute Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Consultants in their respective Outpatient clinics.

The Audiology service uses Auditbase and a comprehensive understanding of this system is required to ensure accurate control of hearing aid stock, smooth running and accurate collation of statistical information to assist in the provision of a quality Audiology service within a strict baseline budget.

You will work autonomously in an effective and efficient way, providing diagnostic investigations and hearing aid management to ensure good patient experience for all service users and that all quality standards are met.

Tests will include, but not limited to, full Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA), Adult Hearing Assessments, hearing aid fittings, reviews, repairs and maintenance.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc in Audiology or equivalent with evidence of clinical placement.
  • State registration with RCCP/HCPC as required by Professional body
Desirable criteria
  • BAA/BSA Member

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good knowledge and experience of relevant Audiological assessment procedures.
  • Good knowledge and experience of NHS hearing aids.
  • Skills to conduct Otoscopy and take ear mould impressions.
  • Good knowledge and experience working with Auditbase (Audiology Patient Management system)
  • Skills and ability to modify earmoulds

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience working with the public, both adults and children
  • Experience of fitting NHS hearing aids
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with adults and children with complex needs, cognitive impairment or learning disabilities.
  • Experience of working with patients with tinnitus

Personal qualities

Essential criteria
  • Able to commute to meet the needs of the job
  • Good hearing (aided or unaided)
  • Patient, caring approach to management of patients and their families/carers/guardians
