Job overview

An opportunity has arisen to join the Black Country Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme as a trainee AAA Screening Technician. This small, friendly and driven team that takes pride in delivering an excellent screening service to the populations of Dudley, Walsall and Wolverhampton.  

The primary purpose of the role is to undertake abdominal ultrasound scanning as part of the National Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) NHS Screening Programme. The Programme are looking to welcome an enthusiastic trainee AAA Screening Technician or fully or partially trained Screening Technician.

The successful candidate must undertake a Diploma for Health Screeners specialising in AAA and, following successful qualification, will work independently, making judgements according to experience and training. The post holder will ensure that screening subjects attending clinics are informed and aware of the implications of AAA Screening.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The primary purpose of this role once qualified in the HSD – Health Screener Diploma is to undertake Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) ultrasound screening as part of the Black Country AAA Screening Programme. The post holder will ensure the screening undertaken is performed to a high and accurate standard and in accordance with National AAA Standard Operating Procedure. The post holder will also undertake administrative duties for the programme.

 

The post holder will reassure men attending the community AAA screening and surveillance clinics and explain the screening test to them. The post holder will ensure that the men attending clinics are informed and aware of the implication of AAA Screening.

 

Clinics are held at various locations across the Black Country including Dudley, Wolverhampton and Walsall. The post holder is expected to travel to the different locations and move screening equipment and supplies.

 

The post holder will work as an assistant practitioner, carrying out abdominal ultrasound scans within standard operating procedures. Following successful completion of the Health Screener’s Diploma, the post holder will work independently and make judgements according to experience and training. Advice is available when needed for more complex situations, but the post holder generally works with their own initiative. You will be required to undergo regular assessments and to renew accreditation at intervals as per the NAAASP Education and Training Framework.

 

For this post the candidate must successfully completion of the Health Screeners’ Diploma - AAA and be able to drive with a clean driving licence with business insurance and must have access to a car.
