Job overview

We are seeking a compassionate, dynamic and motivated nurse to join our well established and supportive colorectal team.  You will be an integral part of the team providing co-ordination and organisation of care for colorectal patients along the cancer pathway.  You will need good communication and interpersonal skills and a good knowledge of the care needs for colorectal cancer patients and their carers.

This is a opportunity for nurses who have experience within a colorectal cancer setting and want to further enhance their skills and knowledge within this speciality. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for delivering a high standard of specialist nursing care within the specialist Colorectal Cancer and Stoma Care Service and will support the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in ensuring high standards of nursing care are provided to all patients receiving care in the specialty. The post holder will be department based. The post holder will support the CNS in providing professional advice to members of the multidisciplinary team; assist in developing the skills and knowledge of staff to deliver high quality care and achieve the performance targets for the specialty

Qualifications and Education

Essential criteria
  • RN or relevant part of NMC register (RSCN, RMN)
Desirable criteria
  • ENB 237 Stoma care course Willingness to undertake

Skills and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial experience in relevant speciality
  • Experience of working as a senior nurse in a GI clinical ward/department
  • Evidence of professional development and regular study since qualification
  • Knowledge of current clinical developments and professional issues affecting nursing/midwifery
  • Understanding of DOH agendas, and other developments
  • Aware of clinical standards of National Service Frameworks
  • Knowledge of the relevance of Governance and risk management within clinical practice
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of audit/research methodologies

Personal Qualities

Essential criteria
  • Experience of close liaison with members of multidisciplinary team
  • Effective communication skills, verbal and written
  • Evidence of having developed team working skills
  • Able to act as patient advocate

  • Ability to work within a team and develop others
