 Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse – CRITICAL CARE

 An opportunity has arisen for a sister/charge nurse within the Critical Care team. 

The post holder will hold a post graduate academic award in critical care and current/recent experience within the critical care setting.  They will provide clinical  leadership to the nursing team and effectively manage the clinical area daily, while maintaining professional and trust standards.

Main duties of the job

Some of the main duties include:

·         -To effectively lead and manage the nursing team as required, ensuring trust vision is realised.

·         -Maintenance of high standards of nursing care – ensuring adherence to trust policies, procedures and guidelines.

·         -To take responsibility for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care to critically ill patients.

·         -Ensure the delivery of holistic patient care recognising the individual needs of patients and their relatives.

·        - Lead the nursing team to deliver care that helps improve the health of the individual or promote a dignified death.

·         -Provide effective leadership and management to nursing teams, always ensuring service provision.

·         -To support capacity management and flow

·         -Promote and safeguard the well-being of all staff, patients and visitors.

·         -Act as an advocate for safeguarding patients, demonstrating courage to speak up as professionally required.

·         -Prioritise workload effectively to manage competing priorities of the clinical area.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • First level registration
  • Post Graduate Academic Award in Critical Care
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of CCN4 competencies
  • Recognised award in teaching & assessing

Knowledge & Training

Essential criteria
  • Ability to supervise & assess others to include pre-registration and post-registration students.
  • Ability to share knowledge base with others and/or teach on the education programme
  • Evidence of self-development & development of others within Critical Care

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven leadership skills within Critical Care.
  • Current or recent experience of working clinically within critical care

Communication & Relationship Skills

Essential criteria
  • Proficient interpersonal skills – to include written, verbal & IT
  • Effective communication with members of the MDT, as well as patient, families & carers
  • Ability to work collaboratively and as part of a large multidisciplinary team

Analytical & Judgement Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate attention to detail
  • Ability to work flexibly under pressure and problem solve
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice & the development of nursing practice

Planning & Organisational Skills

Essential criteria
