Job overview

With ageing population, numbers of admissions of elderly patients with multiple co-morbidities are increasing. Dudley Elderly Care service is providing wide range of services and continues to expand its services to improve the care of frail elderly patients. Current Elderly Care Department provide acute Geriatrics, inpatient Geriatrics and rehabilitation, Ortho-geriatrics, Peri-operative surgical care, Falls, Memory and Parkinson’s services.  Inpatient geriatrics beds also have “Forget me not” unit for patients with cognitive problems and “Parkinson’s Disease” unit. This job is to provide registrar level cover in the Ortho-geriatrics and work as part of wider Geriatrics team.

Main duties of the job

  1. The normal working day will be from 9am to 5pm. It consists of providing in-patient care for an allocated number of patients. .
  2. The post holder will be supported by team of junior doctor and Consultant.
  3. To undertake a daily ward round to review the patients, request the required investigations, review the results, and manage on-going medical problems.
  4. To attend consultant ward rounds.
  5. To attend the daily morning board round (to discuss with other members of the team; nurses, therapists, and discharge coordinators)
