We’re looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Therapy Assistant to support our Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists for 37.5 hours per week delivering high quality care across our medical area.

Your day to day might include:

· Supporting patients with exercises, mobility and daily activities

· Preparing equipment

· Helping ensure smooth and safe discharges

· Documenting care and communicating with the Therapy team, patients and their families/carers

It is expected that the post holder will contribute to seven-day services.

Main duties of the job

The Therapy Assistant role provides support and assistance to the Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapist during multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment of patients within the clinical team. The role requires excellent communication skills to be able to liaise with patient, families and their carer, as well as the immediate clinical and the wider multidisciplinary team. The role works clinically under the supervision of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists and Assistant Therapy Practitioners for all aspects of patient care and treatment, equipment provision and documentation.

Physical Skills

Essential criteria
  • Basic IT skills

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • Sound educational background to GCSE level or equivalent (Grade C or above in 3 subjects)
  • NVQ Level 3 in health based study

Knowledge and Training

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of role of Occupational Therapy and physiotherapy
  • Awareness of the value of team working

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of previous team work
  • Previous Assistant/HCA in any care setting
  • Understanding and interest in providing rehabilitation to patients
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in NHS with patients

Communication & Relationship Skills

Essential criteria
  • Empathy, patience and persuasive skills
  • Desire to work with people
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all members of MDT at all levels and build effective relationships
