Job overview

Due to the expansion of the complex nutrition team and the establishment of the first national intestinal failure virtual ward we have an exciting opportunity for a band 6 nurse position  for a 7-day service
 
This position would be suited to someone that would like to transition into a specialist nursing role or have existing experience in specialist practice. The environment is ever evolving, expands across medicine and surgery, within a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team. Essential skills require being eager to learn and interest in complex nutrition and intestinal failure. 
 
We would welcome informal visits 

Main duties of the job

  1. To provide expert enteral and parenteral nutritional advice to all patients within the Dudley Group.
  2. To ensure patients progress along agreed nutrition pathways, which are supported by the implementation of evidence based practice.
  3. To provide expert support in the management of patients with malabsorption syndromes.
  4. Plan, evaluate and implement care, problem solve and ensure that nutritional support is delivered safely, effectively and appropriately.
  5. Participate in the implementation of national standards and guidelines relating to nutrition support and monitor their effectiveness.
  6. Assess patients referred for nutritional support and effectively communicate treatment plans.
  7. Support patients in the complex nutrition virtual ward

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • First level registration
  • Education to diploma level
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to 1st degree level
  • A recognised course of study in teaching and assessing

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Shows evidence of researching the position applied for
  • Experience of working in an acute hospital setting
  • Keen to develop own skills and develop nursing practice.
Desirable criteria
  • Recent Gastroenterology experience

Physical skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates a responsible attitude to their work
  • Computer literate
Desirable criteria
  • Able to safely manage nasogastric tubes, parenteral nutrition lines and gastrostomy/jejunotomy tubes.
