Modality Lead MRI

Job overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal MRI Radiographer (Band 8a) to lead the day-to-day operational and strategic management of the MRI service. This is a senior role requiring expert clinical knowledge in MRI, leadership and team management abilities, and a strong commitment to patient-centred care and service development.
The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring safe, effective, and efficient delivery of MRI services, supporting innovation and quality improvement, and upholding robust governance and risk management practices.
Main duties of the job
- Lead the operational delivery of the MRI service, ensuring the provision of an efficient imaging service that meets local & national performance targets
- Act as the departmental lead for MRI, providing expert clinical knowledge, advice, & guidance on complex cases and protocols
- Manage daily workflow & capacity planning to ensure optimal utilisation of MRI resources, including staff, equipment, and scanner time
- Develop and implement clinical protocols, working with radiologists and multidisciplinary teams to ensure best practice
- Provide line management and professional leadership to the MRI radiographers, including appraisals, training, & recruitment
- Develop a culture of continuous improvement, learning, & high standards of professional practice
- Support & mentor junior staff & students, ensuring adherence to professional standards & Trust values.
- Take a lead role in clinical governance & risk management for the MRI service, including incident reporting, audit, policy development, & compliance with Health & Safety legislation
- Ensure robust systems are in place to maintain equipment safety, infection control, & patient safeguarding
- Work collaboratively with the Radiology Manager & senior colleagues to develop and implement service improvement plans, including business cases, capital equipment procurement, & future workforce planning
- Contribute to strategic discussions around service redesign, digital innovation, & integration with wider imaging network

Qualifications and Education
Essential criteria
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent experience
- Hold a Post Graduate Certificate in responsible diagnostics examination
- Registration to relevant body/bodies (HCPC)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven managerial experience of leading a team
- Highly developed specialist knowledge of examinations for the services responsible and its application
Communication and Relationship Skills
Essential criteria
- To have excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and spoken; and the ability to communicate with patients displaying challenging behaviour
- Able to work effectively and communicate with multi-disciplinary teams
- To be self-motivated and able to enlist the co-operation and support of others
