Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated person to join the physiologist staff of the Multidisciplinary Respiratory Team for the Lung Function Unit based at Russells Hall Hospital.

This is a permanent post and the successful applicant is not expected to have experience in any of the main duties. Full training will be provided in all aspects of the job and the post holder's competence to perform any given task will be assessed.  The post-holder will be required to complete an in-house training programme and attain the required levels of competence.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be required to perform a range of routine lung function tests, simple sleep studies and to assist with the day to day running of the service. These tests will be primarily performed as an inpatient and outpatient basis on the adult population.

Spirometry will be the main diagnostic breathing test that will be performed.

The respiratory physiologists currently based at Russells Hall Hospital are a team of 6 and are looking to expand with the development and provision of a community diagnostics centre at the Corbett Hospital.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • GCSEs at Grade 4 or above in English (or equivalent e.g. Functional skills level 2)
  • GCSEs at Grade 4 or above in Maths (or equivalent e.g. Functional skills level 2)
Desirable criteria
  • GCSEs at Grade 4 or above in one Science (or equivalent e.g. Functional skills level 2)
  • ARTP Certificate in Spirometry or equivalent assessed competence

Knowledge and Training

Essential criteria
  • Some knowledge of Speciality and duties required as an Assistant Respiratory Physiologist
  • Desire to work in a caring profession and has respect for patient dignity
  • Commitment to undertake In-house training
  • Ability to work independently with effective time management and organisational skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a busy department or similar environment
  • Experience of data input and competent in Basic IT skills
Desirable criteria
  • Previous practical experience in area
