We are delighted to welcome applications to join Ward B3, our busy and dynamic vascular unit.

Ward B3 provides specialist care to patients undergoing a wide range of vascular procedures and requiring high‑quality post‑operative support. Our team prides itself on delivering safe, effective and compassionate care in a fast‑paced environment, often caring for patients with complex needs.

We are seeking caring, motivated individuals who:

  • Understand the unique needs of vascular patients
  • Demonstrate compassion, patience and professionalism at all times
  • Work well under pressure and adapt to the demands of a busy ward
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families and the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Are committed to maintaining high standards of care and upholding Trust values

Working pattern:
This role involves 12‑hour shift working, covering days, nights and weekends as part of the ward rota.

Main duties of the job

The Care Support Worker will: 

  • Be an integral member of the ward/department team working under the direct supervision of a registered practitioner 

  • Be responsible for providing care to patients as delegated by the registered practitioner 

  • Contribute to the maintenance of care environment and quality initiatives to enhance patient care 

  • Ensure that their practice adheres to policies, procedures and competencies.  

  • Act in a manner that upholds privacy, dignity, respect and confidentiality of patients and colleagues

Communication Skills

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of effective communication skills including  Verbal  Written (legible handwriting)  Non-verbal Compassion and respect
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with patients, relatives and / or carers
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff / multidisciplinary team
  • Positive and enthusiastic approach to work
  • Courteous and polite

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Maths and English qualification – GCSE A-D or Functional Skills Level 1
  • Care Certificate or ability to complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment
  • QCF/NVQ Level 2 in Healthcare or equivalent qualification/relevant experience

Knowledge and Training

Essential criteria
  • Ability to recognise limitations of knowledge and competence and practice within these boundaries
  • Prepared to undergo further training
  • Able to use and update IT systems with patient information
  • An understanding of their role within the team

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Able to assess patient’s health, safety and wellbeing while undertaking personal care and referring/escalating to other staff as appropriate
  • Regular contact with bodily fluids when carrying out interventions and or treatments
  • Frequent moderate/intense effort required for periods of time
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in a healthcare environment
  • Manual handing of patients (including toileting, bathing and turning patients), equipment and stores

Analytical & Judgement Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to use own initiative

Planning Skills

Essential criteria
  • Participation in flexible work patterns / shift working required to provide 24hr service to meet the needs of the service.
  • Flexibility to work across the Health Economy
