COVID-19 Vacancy Host Volunteer - Covid Vaccination Programme

Job overview

Host Volunteers are required to support us in the continued fight against coronavirus and to positively support the Covid-19 Vaccination Programme for the Black Country and West Birmingham area.

We are wanting to recruit further volunteers from our local communities to enable us to continue to provide a safe and effective vaccination programme while continuing to offer timely access and minimal impact on other NHS services.

Volunteers form an integral part of the team, working at either an existing NHS Vaccination Centre or a temporary standalone service within a local community, working with our Primary Care Networks, including local GP practices and pharmacies. They have the opportunity to work either inside the centres or outside sign posting people attending one of the vaccination centres across The Black Country and West Birmingham; including the Black Country Museum, the Saddlers Centre and the Tipton Sports Academy.

Main duties of the job

Host Volunteer roles include:

Wayfinding and Patient Flow - Working alongside Front of house staff to support the smooth arrival onto the site of people coming for vaccination. 

Patient Support - Answering patient queries and addressing any concerns about the vaccination in the waiting area.

You will receive the training and support prior to your first volunteering opportunity.

Host Volunteers – Covid 19 Programme

We are looking for Host Volunteers from across Dudley, Wolverhampton and West Birmingham to help protect our patients, our staff and our community. We expect all of our staff and volunteers to demonstrate the Trust values of Care, Respect and Responsibility.  

The Vaccination Centres are based at Tipton Sports Academy and at the Saddlers Centre, operating 7 days a week generally from 0700 – 1900.  We are looking for people to start as soon as possible.

We believe healthcare is better when supported by dedicated volunteers.  Come join our team!

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity for you to join us and play your part in protecting the community and saving lives.

We are seeking friendly and enthusiastic people who are able to volunteer during the current pressures in relation to the pandemic.  You will be someone with a calm demeanour and have good communication skills that put people at ease even in times of distress.

Volunteering is a great way to be sociable, make new friends and contacts, whilst providing you with personal achievement.

Our volunteers make a real difference to our patients and support our staff in so many ways.  They are an integral part of the Vaccination Centres day-to-day operations.

To apply for Host Volunteering role, you are required to be 18 or over, however you do not need previous experience and training will be provided. All we ask is that volunteers are reliable and willing to give time on a regular basis.

  • Helping efficient patient flow to the clinical assessment, vaccination station, post vaccination observation area and pod exit
  • Assisting in the prevention of overcrowding be ensuring the crowd limits in various parts of the ground are complied with
  • Effectively communicate with the other areas representatives to avoid congestion
  • Identify people who require additional support (care/Chaperone, additional language support) and direct them to an alternative flow
  • Providing enhanced support to those requiring it (e.g. those who cannot queue standing or patients with impairments)
  • Confidently conveying NHS messaging on the vaccination in line with national guidelines
  • Providing people with relevant information materials (e.g., leaflets) and offer brief explanation of the steps pre, during and post vaccination that the citizens need to be aware of.
  • Responding to any site people queries and concerns and escalating any issues to the respective Supervisor.
  • Ensure patients are comfortable and reassure them pre and post vaccine, signposting them to relevant external resources as needed

Additional Tasks:

  •  Ensure that people respect national guidelines such as social distancing and mask protection
  • Assist in the monitoring of the health and safety, fire and security of self and others in work area
  • Raising and seeking support from appropriate site staff with basic any issues that may arise
  • Maintaining accurate records and ensuring strict data and patient record confidentiality
  • Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way free from hazards
  • Observe and maintain Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to patient /family/staff records and information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act

The time you dedicate to this role will be flexible and hours offered will depend on site opening times.

Please note – this Host Volunteer opportunity is for non-clinical support only and the role will adhere to government social distancing guidelines.
