Are you looking for a new exciting career within the NHS? Are you patient focused and want to deliver high quality peri and post operative care? We are seeking enthusiastic, hard working NMC registered Nurse Or HCPC registered Operating Department Practitioner to join the Dental Theatre team.
We currently have a vacancy for a Band 5 Theatre Practitioner:
37.5 hours a week with (currently) no unsociable hours to work
You will be working in a small team treating patient who require dental treatment. These patients are mainly children, but we also operate on adults and patient with special needs.
The successful applicant will be expected to carry out both scrub duties and recovery duties. There is also an option to work on the anesthetic side, for those with the appropriate qualification.
Main duties of the job
As part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder is responsible for the assessment, evaluation and implementation of care given to patients within the perioperative and post operative environment, ensuring that they deliver the highest standard of direct patient care. Also required to support patients and their immediate relatives, with emphasis on patient safety and dignity during all aspects of their procedure.
You will need to be able to complete pre-operative check lists on patients and ensure that it is safe for us to operate on them.
You will become a valued member of the operating team and will be expected to scrub for cases as part of the multidisciplinary team, as well as work in the recovery area ensuring that patients recover sufficiently from their general anesthetic ready to be discharged home safely.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Assess, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate the peri-operative care of patients using specialist knowledge and skills ensuring all care is person centred and individualised acknowledging personal preferences, legal rights and choice of patients undergoing surgery.
- Maintain health, safety and the control of infection in clinical work areas in line with Trust policies and procedures.
- Store, prepare and administer prescribed drugs to patients, and monitor the effects of drugs on patients in line with Trust policies.
- Prepare, monitor and maintain materials and equipment for clinical procedures ensuring resources are utilised appropriately.
- Support, monitor and care for patients during clinical procedures.
- Contribute to treating patients during clinical emergencies.
- Maintain accurate & legible records of care ensuring all clinical records are contemporaneous.
- Assess requirements of the Theatre / anaesthetic room / recovery room for the operating list to ensure that the needs of the patients and clinicians are met, and that clinical practice takes place in a safe environment.
- Provide all necessary equipment and materials for the list.
- Monitor all equipment used, report and take action if found to be faulty to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
- Undertake role expansion duties relevant to their specialist role.
- Adhere to Trust guidelines and policies on role expansion.
- Recognise own competence and limitations with regard to role expansion.
- Exemplary standards of behaviour will be role modelled and the standards/behaviours/values of the Nursing/Dental/AHP profession in line with NMC/GDC/HCPC code of conduct and trust will be upheld.

- RN (Adult/Paeds)/ C&G 752/ODP 3/DipHE / with current NMC registration

- Relevant experience within a Theatre environment
- Specialist knowledge and experience in theatre scrub and recovery
Skills/knowledge
Essential criteria
- Proficient in reading and writing in the English language.
- Ability to speak, receive, understand and issue instructions in English and using medical terminology without risk of misunderstanding.
- Awareness of stock control.
- Knowledge of specialty
- Ability to work under pressure in a high turnover environment.
