Due to service expansion Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit an experienced band 5 or current band 6 to an exciting specialist respiratory position within the Adult Community Respiratory Team.

The Adult Community Respiratory Team provide a range of services including pulmonary rehabilitation, Nurse led and GP led community respiratory Clinics, direct access spirometry clinics, domiciliary admission prevention and assisted discharge support across the Birmingham.

As part of our committed and supportive team you will assist us in working together to develop and improve the lives of adult patients with a range of respiratory conditions predominantly Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Asthma and Bronchiectasis.

We are committed to the continued professional and career development of all staff with extensive internal training and support provided by experienced band 7 and band 6 clinicians already working in this field, supplemented with external training with the focus on developing the skills of the successful candidate to work autonomously in the challenging area of Respiratory.

Main duties of the job

  • To triage new referrals and assess complex facts and situations by being able to analyse, investigate and interpret information, exercising good analytical and judgemental skills and being able to compare a range of options.

 

  • To provide comprehensive evidence based and skilled professional specialist Pre- PR assessments addressing individual patient needs prior to the programme. To take direct responsibility for the assessment of patients physical, psychological, and social support needs

 

  • Order/arrange, interpret and act on diagnostic tests i.e. Oxygen Assessments, chest x-rays, spirometry, and take an in depth medical history in order to diagnose the identified respiratory conditions supported, and manage symptoms in line with appropriate policy and guidelines.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Nursing or Physiotherapy Degree
  • NMC or HCPC Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Respiratory Specific post graduate qualifications

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant experience in managing patients with a range of resp
  • Relevant experience of multidisciplinary working
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of MDT working
  • Experience of leading groups of patients for education or exercise sessions

Skills/knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of assessment skills
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of current legislative changes affecting the NHS & Social Services particularly those affecting Primary Care
  • Ability to teach relatives, clients and staff across all areas of self care and appropriate clinical practice related to respiratory disease.
  • Ability to demonstrate a sound knowledge of standard setting & audit processes
  • Ability to demonstrate written skills that are relevant, accurate, concise and legible.
  • Proficient IT skills for presentations/documents/emails.
