Job overview
The Specialty Doctor for West EIP Team will be committed to working with young people with mental ill health and neurodevelopmental conditions as well as provide a central role within an MDT context in delivering psychiatric assessment and treatment for a caseload of patients and their families. The post holder will also contribute to providing psychiatric and medical risk management.
The West EIP Team forms part of the overall Community Mental Health provision in the city of Birmingham and works closely with other specialty teams, providers and services to deliver a high quality service.
The clinical base is The Finch Hub, 2 Finch Rd, Lozells, Birmingham B19 1HS
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide direct psychiatric services through the clinical assessment, diagnosis and care plan, risk assessment and management plans, treatment formulation, prescribing and work with the team on implementing evidence based interventions.
You will hold a caseload of patients and review patients at a frequency according to their clinical need and risks, working alongside Consultants and the multi-disciplinary team.
You will also participate in formulating and implementing appropriate care plans around physical healthcare needs of service users and provide mental health assessments on both new referrals and open cases.

Essential criteria
- Recognised medical degree
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- Eligible for approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act.
- Completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be within a psychiatry training programme or as a fixed term specialty trainee within psychiatry; or have equivalent experience and competences
- Commitment to personal programme of Continuing Professional Development
- At least two years experience of working in psychiatry, including working with people suffering from severe mental illness, preferably in a community setting
- Experience of teaching and training at an undergraduate/postgraduate level
- Commitment to clinical audit and quality improvement within multi-disciplinary team.
- Flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing service needs.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work creatively within multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrable interest in the provision of gender sensitive mental health service
- Able to travel across the community base area
Desirable criteria
- MRCPsych or equivalent
- Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act (1983)
- Broad clinical training in psychiatry including both inpatient and community service
- Experience serving a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic population
- Experience of providing psychological and/or social interventions
- Experience of contributing to or completion of a service improvement project
- Completed clinically relevant audit projects
- Skills in working with individuals who are difficult to engage.
