Hours: 10 P.A. per week plus on call commitment.

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust invites applications from orthopaedic surgeons or neurosurgeons to the position of Locum Consultant in Degenerative Spinal Surgery.

 

This is a post required to ensure the Trust can continue to provide high quality and timely care for its patients, offering a comprehensive range of spinal surgery.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a surgeon wishing to pursue a career dedicated to spinal surgery within an internationally renowned centre. This opportunity is to form a career in adult degenerative spinal surgery. The post holder will be committed to degenerative conditions ideally with an emphasis on minimally invasive spinal surgery, modern techniques, and endoscopic spinal surgery. The department is fortunate to have full modern equipment including spinal tables, intra operative 3D imaging, navigation, and 4K endoscopic capabilities.

Main duties of the job

The post is expected to attract 10 PA’s with an on-call commitment of approximately 1:11 providing emergency routine spinal care to Birmingham and Worcestershire, and beyond.

The successful candidate will have completed orthopaedic or neurosurgical training and hold FRCS(Orth) or FRCS(SN), be entered on the Specialist Register or within 3 months of this and have successfully completed (or is completing) a recognised spinal fellowship. They will hold a logbook and a working knowledge of spinal instruments commensurate with that.  Clear evidence of longstanding commitment to a career in spinal surgery is mandatory. This is for a fixed 12 month locum post to increase capacity.

The post requires the appointee to work well within a team, demonstrating flexibility and team working and ensuring effective delivery of service and utilization of resource whilst maintaining high levels of patient care.  There are excellent opportunities to engage in audit and research.
