Job overview

Are you an experienced clinician who is:

·       Ambitious to improve services?

  • Passionate to teach and inspire?
  • Seeking freedom to lead?
  • Innovative and driven?

Sandwell & West Birmingham are seeking to recruit an experienced Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist with well-developed leadership, communication and engagement skills as the Service Lead within our Trauma and Orthopaedic Therapy Service. This Service Lead role includes both clinical and service leadership & development responsibilities so is ideally suited to someone with advanced clinical skills looking to retain a clinical portfolio whilst also having the opportunity to lead and influence service change.

This exciting role could either provide a new opportunity for an existing Service Lead, or an opportunity for an individual looking to work at this level who is keen to broaden their experience and scope within the specialty of Trauma & Orthopaedics.

Main duties of the job

As an integrated Acute and Community Trust, this role will be acute service facing, based at our new acute hospital site – Midland Metropolitan University Hospital - but with a focus on development of services and pathways to provide excellence in clinical care across the patient journey.

The successful candidate will have a clinical background in Trauma and Orthopaedics and the ability to work at an advanced clinical level, alongside a proven track record of leading for quality improvement including the ability to develop multidisciplinary working relationships to enable and lead delivery of change at pace whilst strengthening quality and safety standards.

Alongside relevant clinical experience, applicants will demonstrate excellent communication and critical thinking skills, with strong leadership skills, including in challenging situations. The successful applicant will also be passionate about the value of our AHP workforce and in continuing to develop our workforce of highly engaged and skilled therapists and therapy support workers.

The successful candidate will also be an integral part of the multidisciplinary iBeds Directorate Senior Leadership Team, with a chance to develop operational and service development skills and to influence improvements across multiple clinical areas.

Working for our organisation

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWBT) is an integrated care organisation with a budget of approximately £600 million and over 7,000 staff. Diversity and social care is at the core of what we do as the Trust provides Community and Acute Services to over half a million people in an urban centre that demands massive regeneration and has substantial premature mortality.

We have three strategic objectives:

  1. Our People – to cultivate and sustain happy, productive and engaged staff
  2. Our Patients – to be good or outstanding in everything we do
  3. Our Population – to work seamlessly with our partners to improve lives

As a team, we live our core Trust values of ambition, respect and compassion. Our Trust takes a strongly integrated, person-centred approach where independence and early intervention is promoted and encouraged using ‘What matters to you?’ principles. We are looking for a suitably aspirational candidate who will share these core values and behaviours. Following appointment, ongoing support and coaching, with a variety of learning opportunities and a detailed induction and handover will be provided.
