Job overview
We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Core South Team based at Oaklands Centre Hub for the South community mental health team.
You will have a central role within an MDT context in providing medical leadership, delivering psychiatric assessment and treatment for a caseload of children, adolescents and their families with variable degree of complexity associated with attachment difficulties, mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions, as well as contribute to providing psychiatric and medical risk management in the community.
On a day-to-day basis, as Consultant psychiatrist, you will be part of the Children's and Young People Mental Health Service. You will have a close working relationship on clinical matters with multidisciplinary teams and provide important liaison with other doctors in primary and secondary care.
You will offer specialist consultation and peer supervision to Senior Mental Health Practitioners within the clinical team including the supervision of resident doctors.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be considered for Quality Improvement Lead status for the Oaklands Team Hub and shall be supported by the Service and Clinical Team Managers in promoting and overseeing quality improvement activities within the MDT.

Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act (1983)
- MRCPsych or equivalent
- Obtained inclusion on the Specialist Register; or within six months of the award of a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in Adult Psychiatry; or eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register
- Commitment to personal programme of Continuing Professional Development.
- Substantial experience of psychiatry, including working with people suffering from severe mental illness, preferably in a community setting
- Experience of providing psychological and/or social interventions
- Experience of teaching and training at an undergraduate/postgraduate level
- Commitment to clinical audit within multi-disciplinary team.
- Evidence of potential for effective leadership.
- Excellent cDemonstrable interest in the provision of gender sensitive mental health servicemunication skills.
- Ability to work creatively within multi-disciplinary team
- Willingness to be involved in management of service.
- Able to participate in Consultant on-call rota.
- Able to travel
Desirable criteria
- Additional qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or another relevant field
- Broad clinical training including both inpatient and community service
- Experience serving a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic population.
- Experience of stakeholder engagement in service delivery
- Experience of contributing to or completion of a service improvement project
- Completed clinically relevant audit projects
