We are committed to equality and diversity within our workforce.

Job overview

We need band 5 nurses to help us expand our pre-assessment service.

Pre-assessment is a vital part of our endoscopy service. Now we need to expand our workforce to ensure we are able to pre-assess more of our patients. As one of our pre-assessment nurses you will be holding outpatient nurse led clinics where you will assess patients’  fitness for endoscopy, take consent for procedures and ensure patients are given all the correct information to prepare correctly for their procedure.

You will also be involved in ensuring in-patients are prepared , consented and informed for their endoscopy.

Additionally, you will help with a helpline to ensure any patient queries are dealt with.  The role will also mean you will be involved in audits, surveys and ensuring the endoscopy units meet all the requirements for JAG accreditation.

A structured training programme will be in place to allow you to meet all the competencies required to carry out this role.

As an endoscopy pre-assessment nurse you could be working any one of six days, Monday to Saturday. You will work across the multi-disciplinary team with regular contact with nursing, medical and administrative test.  The post is full time and will require working at any of the three sites; City Health Campus, Sandwell Health Campus and MMUH.

Main duties of the job

  • 1.1 Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual programmes of care based on an agreed model of care and in consideration of individual need, maximising opportunities for health promotion and education.
  • Manage a defined group of patients/clients, participating in all aspects of care from admission through to discharge.
  • Assess and prioritise patient/client requirements, delegating effectively to others.
  • To recognise, review and report patient’s/client’s condition and any changes to it to senior members of staff within the multidisciplinary team.
  •  Assess and prepare patients undergoing endoscopic procedures to ensure they are fit and able to follow all necessary pre-procedure instructions.
  • To be professionally accountable for own actions during working shift.
  • To comply with NMC and local standards for record keeping.
  • To undertake administration of prescribed medication and supervision of patient’s self-medication.
  • To be aware of the psychological/emotional needs of the patient/carer responding and reporting appropriately.

Working for our organisation

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWB) serves Birmingham and the Black Country – one of the country’s most culturally diverse areas. It’s a friendly and welcoming place – a place where you can belong, and a place where you can grow.

We care for our patients, we care about our population, and we care about our people.

Our values – Ambition, Respect and Compassion – are at the heart of who we are. They guide us every step of the way; how we work with each other, and how we look after our patients and their families; how we respect and value the rich diversity of our team and our community.

Our Trust has always aspired to be more than a hospital, more than a healthcare provider. Our purpose is to “Improve the Life Chances and Health Outcomes of our Population.” It is what inspires, drives, and unites us every day. It’s what makes us unique.

We want working at SWB to feel like more than just a job. We want our Trust to be a place where you can feel you belong. A place where you feel happy, safe, and rewarded. A place where you can develop your career in whatever way you choose. When we say we’re ‘with you all the way’ we want you to know that we mean it. Visit the SWB website to find out more about our ambitions and people plans.
