Are you a confident physiotherapist who would like to develop your leadership and Clicnical skills in Cardio-respiratory,  Gastroentrology and Frailty patients?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a specialist Physiotherapist  with acute medicine experience to join the Medicine therapy team at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust .  

You will need to provide specialist clinical knowledge and support to therapy, nursing and medical teams with the management of acutely unwell elderly patients, demonstrating critical thinking, evidenced based care and clinical decision making ensuring compliance to all national and local targets and guidelines. Along with clinical component this role also involves the supervision of junior therapists, students and therapy support workers working in the team. Working in the Medicine therapy team will give you opportunities to work in various spcialities like cardiology, respiratory, renal, gastroentrology, frailty and fall prevention patients. 

You will need to have the ability to be flexible and adaptable,  to assist with the current development of the integrated OT and Physio 7 day service, provide clinical leadership and participate in training and education to develop yourself and the team’s skills. You will be expected to be part of the acute care model of 8am to 8pm working pattern but happy to be flexible in working hours. 

Main duties of the job

Provide specialist assessment and treatment of patients with diverse and complex presentations within all emergency care and assessment units, and other areas of acute medicine as required.

Contribute to the development of the service within the Medicine Therapy Team.

Support other inpatient teams if required.

Contribute to the supervision & education of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Student Therapists & Support Workers and other professionals within the multi-disciplinary team

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy
  • HPC Registration
  • Portfolio evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post graduate experience as Junior Physiotherapist in a rotational post. Experience must include working within medicine in an acute hospital environment
  • Experience of working as part of a therapy team and the wider MDT
  • Experience of delegating to and supervising Physiotherapy/ Rehabilitation Assistants.
  • Contribution to the clinical education of less experienced staff or undergraduate Physiotherapy students
  • Participation in emergency duties and 7 day service

  • Involvement in audit and research
