Job overview
The post holder will work on site to lead on the safe administration of BCG vaccine of babies up to the age of 12 months in the maternity unit, and will ensure there is onward referral to TB nurse as appropriate. The post holder will need to check results for the eligible babies prior to the booking of appointments and ensure correct referrals of babies into the service. Training will be given to the postholder to ensure correct administration of the vaccine.
The post holder will also need access to a number of databases to document the administration of the vaccine and reposond to queries from NHSe.
Main duties of the job
The main duties will involve safe administration of vaccines predomeinenetly BCG vaccine to Newborns within the 28 day KPI. The post holder will administer the vaccine under a PGD that has developed for use. Knowledge of using a PGD is desirable however training will be given.
The post holder will be expected to demonstrate concise, accurate, timely record keeping and provide skilled, evidence-based care which adheres to agreed Trust policies and procedures. Ability to write and evaluate simple reports and record immunisations acurrately on the data bases that are used.
Ensuring that the vaccination is prepared and of the correct dosage prior to administration adhering to the NMC code fo conduct around medicine managemrnt.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Administration of BCG vaccine to newborn babies in accordanace with the KPI set by NHSe. Refer appropriately to the TB nurse as needed. Ensure training for administration is updated as needed and administering the vaccine under the PGD. Correct process when preparing the vaccine prior to administration and ensure safe storage once the vaccine as been reconstituted. Monitoring of fridge temperatures to avoid any cold chain incidents and the ability to report any vaccination errors/cold chain incidnets via the incident process.
Documenting administration on all databases that are used and ensuring eligibility at time of vaccination/when booking of appointment.
