Paediatric Staff Nurse Emergency Department

NHS AfC: Band 5

Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic, energetic, proactive and motivated individuals to join our friendly and dynamic team within our busy Paediatric Emergency department.

As we continue to develop patient and family led services and expand nursing roles that reflect the on-going changes in emergency healthcare, we would like to invite you to be a part of the growing team.

Our new department at MMUH is a busy department that consists of 10 cubicles, 2 of which are dedicated to high dependency care, and 2 dedicated Paediatric Resus bays.

Our commitment to staff development is reflected in our supernumerary induction programme and mentorship package for all new staff, and a Band 5 competency programme. This is led by our dedicated Paediatric Professional Development Nurse, and supported through our Team Structure.

You will be supported through your journey, by our experienced Paediatric nursing team consisting of Band 7 clinical senior sisters/charge nurses, Band 6 sisters/chare nurses, and band 5 staff nurses.

If this post is for you, then we would welcome you to apply.

Main duties of the job

To provide the highest standard of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care as required within the Paediatric Emergency Department.

To utilise a variety of strategies to communicate effectively with children and their family/carers, the MDT, other departments within the trust and pertinent agencies outside the organisation.

In order to deliver the above, you will require a general understanding and knowledge of children's health needs including recent acute care experience. You may take responsibility for a specific area within the Emergency Department during a span of duty during absence of more senior staff.

Working for our organisation

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWB) serves Birmingham and the Black Country – one of the country’s most culturally diverse areas. It’s a friendly and welcoming place – a place where you can belong, and a place where you can grow.

We care for our patients, we care about our population, and we care about our people.

Our values – Ambition, Respect and Compassion – are at the heart of who we are. They guide us every step of the way; how we work with each other, and how we look after our patients and their families; how we respect and value the rich diversity of our team and our community.

Our Trust has always aspired to be more than a hospital, more than a healthcare provider. Our purpose is to “Improve the Life Chances and Health Outcomes of our Population.” It is what inspires, drives, and unites us every day. It’s what makes us unique.

We want working at SWB to feel like more than just a job. We want our Trust to be a place where you can feel you belong. A place where you feel happy, safe, and rewarded. A place where you can develop your career in whatever way you choose.  When we say we’re ‘with you all the way’ we want you to know that we mean it. Visit the SWB website to find out more about our ambitions and people plans
