Job overview

This role is for a forward thinking and pro active Band 2. This role undertakes chaperoning patients during Neurology consultations, phlebotomy service for patients with MS and also some genetic testing. There is also opportunities to be involved in audits, service improvement and also day to day running of the neurology outpatient department in this small medical Centre. 

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include: 

Chaperoning patients undergoing neurology appointments

Providing support emotionally to those patients. 

Undertaking a specific MS Disease Modifying Drugs phlebotomy service

Undertaking genetic testing for Neurologists

Undertaking baseline observations such as lying/standing BP for patients with Parkinson's Disease. 

Routine audits to ensure the service/department is compliant

Fridge temperature checks- escalate effectively if errors reported.

routine Botox/Dysport stock monitoring. 

ordering and Stock check using NHS supply chain as well as other stock ordering, including but not ;limited to gloves, hypodermic needles, tourniquets, neuro tips.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Within the role of Clinical Support Worker for Neurology the successful candidate will work closely with the Neurologists and Clinical Nurse specialists within the Shawbirch Medical Centre providing excellent care to patient's with long standing neurological condition's. This role will include but not exhaust responsibilities such as undertaking specific phlebotomy services for patient's of Disease modifying drugs for MS as well as initiation bloods for patient's with Parkinson's Disease commencing Apomorphine. As well as this genetic testing is required for certain aspects of neurology care. There will also be an expectation of the candidate chaperoning patient's within their Consultant appointments, providing emotional support when required. Alongside this the candidate will be required to undertake stock takes of medication/stock and pro-actively order when supplies run low.  This is an exciting position for someone who would like to extend their clinical and non-clinical skills within the NHS.
