Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and an approved plan to build a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which commenced in 2021

Job overview
Post holders will support registered nursing staff and other health care professionals in the delivery of nursing care to patients at a level determined by training, competence and experience. They will also assist in the maintenance of the care environment and perform housekeeping, clerical, ancillary and portering roles as requested.
Postholder should only undertake duties for which training has been received and where relevant, competency based assessment successfully completed. Postholder must make nurses and others aware of any limitations to competence.
Main duties of the job
- Assist in the provision of patient care in accordance with the care plan prescribed by registered nurses. Examples of duties include delivery of hygiene, nutrition and hydration, continence care, pressure area care, mobility, rehabilitation and psychological support.
- Assist healthcare professional with treatment and carry out additional care roles under supervision and as determined by the levels of competence achieved.
- changes to patient’s condition or health status to registered nurses
- Assist in care and support of visitors.
- Maintain confidentiality in relation to patients’ records working within the principles of Caldicott guidelines

Essential criteria
- QCF/NVQ Level 2 in Healthcare or equivalent qualification/relevant experience
- Maths and English qualification
- Care Certificate or ability to complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment
Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to use and update IT systems with patient information.
- Ability to communicate appropriately with patients, relatives and / or carers
- Able to assess patient’s health, safety and wellbeing while undertaking personal care and referring/escalating to other staff as appropriate.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Manual handing of patients (including toileting, bathing, and turning patients), equipment and stores
- Evidence of effective communication skills
Desirable criteria
- Experience in a healthcare environment
