Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and an approved plan to build a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which commenced in 2021

Undertakes unsupervised clinical neurophysiological tests on patients to aid in clinical diagnosis; interprets results and provides factual reports (e.g. Routine EEG, Sleep and Sedation EEG and portable EEG.
Undertakes unsupervised specialist and advanced clinical neurophysiological tests and procedures in aid to clinical diagnosis; interprets results and provides factual reports and clinical conclusions (e.g. Median and Ulnar nerve conduction studies) and advises Clinicians.
Produces reports for issuing to referring clinicians on Normal EEGs, normal and abnormal upper limb nerve conduction studies and normal lower limb nerve conduction studies as per departmental guidelines and verifies reports on the above produced by other Clinical Physiologists.
Undertakes clinical supervision and training for trainee staff and other professions.
Undertakes some managerial and administrative duties and deputies for the Neurophysiology Department Manager.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking to appoint a Highly Specialised Clinical Physiologist ( Neurophysiology) who will support all aspects of the service as outlined in the job description.
- To perform routine EEG recordings on adults and children as outpatients and inpatients whilst awake, adapting the technique where necessary to accommodate the clinical state (such as psychological, emotional and aggressive) and degree of co-operation of the patient (such as learning disabilities and challenging behaviours).
- Use video equipment during the EEG recordings having obtained written consent from patients/guardians.
- Advise patients before leaving the department of the necessary precautions to take if found to be photosensitive during the EEG recording to reduce the risk of further epileptic attacks.
- To transport portable equipment from the department to perform portable EEG recordings on bed-bound in-patients on various wards, adapting the technique where necessary to accommodate the clinical state (such as psychological, emotional and aggressive) and degree of co-operation of the patient (such as learning disabilities and challenging behaviours).
- To utilize digital EEG software to produce a detailed factual report on EEG recordings for viewing by the Consultant neurophysiologist

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology (Neurophysiology) or equivalent formal specialist training (other appropriate qualifications eg. BTEC HNC/D in MPPM / PTP / STP or equivalent experience and professional exam ECNE Part1)
- Knowledge of specialist procedures acquired through specialist/management courses or training/experience to advanced level.
Desirable criteria
- Training and Assessing qualifications
- Working towards voluntary RCCP registration
- ECNE Part II
Experience
Essential criteria
- Appropriate post-graduate/post qualification experience
- Practical experience, familiarity and ability to perform a wide range of basic and advanced/highly specialised neurophysiology investigations and/or to have the highest level of specialist skills and knowledge within the relevant field
- Able to interpret specialist neurophysiological investigation results and patient conditions

Essential criteria
- Able to undertake complex eye-hand coordination tasks such as electrode placement and dexterity and co-ordination for use of diagnostic equipment eg. applying large number of electrodes on a neonate in special care conditions
