Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and an approved plan to build a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which commenced in 2021

Our Midwife Led Unit- Midwives promote normality and the use of alternative therapies for the benefit of all women. If you are looking for the opportunity to work innovatively, using a continuity of carer model, utilizing and developing your midwifery skills within a successful MLU team then this may be the opportunity for you.
**We are offering a clinical fellowship programme to our new staff, following a minimum of 6 months working with us, this includes access to fully funded master's degree**

Main duties of the job
Job Summary
1. Work within NMC codes of practice and professional guidelines.
2. Work autonomously within Trust guidelines and sphere of professional
practice with reference to departmental manager as appropriate
3. Provide effective and visible clinical leadership
4. Advocate and support the rights of individual women to make informed
choices about their care
5. Participates in high quality care for women and their families, also providing
mentorship and professional support to enable students and maternity
support workers to do the same.
6. Promote equality, diversity and rights.
7. Provide constructive feedback and support to enable junior colleagues and
student midwives to develop.
8. Undertake all mandatory training required by the Trust and specific to
midwifery practice.
9. Act up for the departmental ward manager/team leader in their absence
10. Must be NLS trained with a minimum of 3 years band 6 experience.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 286,700, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities. Work is also well underway on its multi-million pound new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre which will house a new Emergency Department (including Children’s Emergency Department), co-located Paediatric Assessment Unit, Acute Medical Unit and Urgent Care Centre. This is scheduled for completion this year.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- Current NMC Registration demonstrable experience or evidence of band 6 competencies having been approved by professional preceptor/SOM.
- Evidence of a high standard and knowledge of evidence based midwifery care acquired through CPD and experience.
- Level 3 Child protection training. Sound knowledge of child protection, domestic violence, substance misuse and women with special needs.
- NLS QUALIFICATION
Desirable criteria
- minimum of 3 years as a band 6 Midwife
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and experience in all areas of maternity services developed through continuing professional knowledge.
- Demonstrates specialist knowledge across a range of work procedures and practices.
- Ability to supervise learners.
- Experts for the following procedures: venepuncture, Cannulation, perineal suturing and low risk care in labour
- Knowledge and ability to deal appropriately with emergencies in the absence of medical staff.
- Knowledge of Child Protection policy and legislation in practice
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of involvement in the development of policy's and clinical audit.
- Well developed IT skills.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Must be able to rotate to all areas of Maternity
KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
- Must be able to demonstrate midwifery knowledge and skills
- Aware of health and safety issues within the maternity unit and compliant.
- Uses appropriate moving and manual handling techniques, as part of daily activities assisting women during birth, post operatively and during the postnatal period.
OTHER
Essential criteria
- Can demonstrate autonomous practice.
- Approachable and flexible attitude to work.
- Able to coordinate/manage a ward area in the absence of the line manager. .
