Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and an approved plan to build a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which commenced in 2021

Job overview
The purpose of this role is to support the safe, effective and compliant delivery of Pharmacy Quality Assurance and Aseptic Services across the Trust. The post holder will contribute to maintaining high standards of product quality, environmental control and regulatory compliance through routine QA/QC activities, documentation management and adherence to GMP principles. Working closely with senior QA staff, they will assist in investigations, service improvements and the development of procedures that underpin the integrity of aseptic preparation services. The role also supports aseptic production, staff training and wider service development, ensuring that high‑quality, patient‑centred pharmacy services are delivered consistently and safely.
Main duties of the job

Quality Assurance Duties
- To contribute to the provision of safe and effective Pharmacy Quality Assurance and Aseptic Services at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.
- To participate in Quality Assurance audits and the implementation of actions required to address deficiencies.
- To participate in the supervision and monitoring of routine pharmacy clean room Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) activities, facility and equipment validation, planned preventative maintenance and temperature-controlled storage.
- To ensure appropriate working conditions are maintained and that the relevant principles of GMP, GCP and those of the Health & Safety at Work Act are applied at all times.
Production Duties
- To undergo the in-house aseptic training for transfer and assembly tasks within Aseptic Services and participate in the Aseptic Services rota.
- To support a safe and effective aseptic service to all patients of Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust when working in production.
- Supervise technical staff and processes within the Aseptic Unit when working in production.
- To work towards and act as a product approver, carry out the final accuracy checks, according to standard operating procedures on prepared products in the Pharmacy Aseptic Unit.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Relevant Job Information BTEC Pharmaceutical Sciences with NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Services or The Principles of Aseptic Pharmaceuticals Processing (Level 3), OR equivalent scientific qualification at degree level
- Appropriate Professional Registration
Desirable criteria
- Supervisory or management qualification
- Product Approval Accreditation Programme
- Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification or working towards ACPT qualification.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience working in a laboratory, Section 10 or MHRA Licenced Manufacturing Unit, or comparable production environment
- Good knowledge and understanding of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
- Experience recording and interpreting monitoring results and reporting any quality concerns
- Experience preparing and distributing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs
Desirable criteria
- Clinical trial experience and understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
- Experience in deviation reporting and the subsequent generation and investigation of reports under the supervision
- Experience of Quality Assurance audits and the implementation of actions required to address deficiencies
Skills
Essential criteria
- Effective communication skills including being able to present complex information, share knowledge and influence others.
- Strong organisational skills, including being able to plan complex schedules and processes, and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines.
- Ability to analyse data, identify improvements and solve complex problems.
- Computer skills to include word processing and data entry i.e. spreadsheets and databases.
