Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated technician, or scientist to join our friendly and dynamic team to provide high quality of Quality Assurance and Training within the aseptic services.

You will be part of an expanding team of highly professional and dedicated staff whose aim is to provide an excellent, patient focus service.

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust strives to innovate and improve care to patients. The new Pharmacy Aseptic, Clinical Trials and Radiopharmacy facility is expected to be in operation late 2025.

The functions of the unit is the preparation of parental nutrition, cytotoxic, monoclonal antibodies and clinical trials in a safe and efficient manner according to Good Manufacturing Practice and National Standards.

Our aim is to provide our valued staff with excellent training including Quality Assurance to become skilled, highly competent, and confident in their job roles. We welcome applicants from hospital and industry preferably with aseptic experience, but not essential as full training will be given.

Main duties of the job

A band 5 to 6 step up will be considered, successful candidates will be appointed at either Band 5 or Band 6 depending on experience and meeting essential criteria appropriate to grade Main duties of the job The post holder will:

Be an experienced qualified pharmacy professional or scientist, with a proven post qualification of QA and ASU experience.

Supervise the work of Pharmacy Technicians, Assistant Technical officers, trainee pharmacists, pharmacy students and Support staff.

Undertake routine QA processes

Provide Training and Education for Pharmacy Technicians, Assistant Technical Officers, trainee pharmacists, pharmacy students and Support staff.

To oversee the assessment of pharmacy staff undertaking other Pharmacy Competence programmes under the direction of QA Lead and Chief  Technician Aseptic Services and Clinical Trials.

To perform staff appraisals under the direction of the QA Lead

To prepare risk assessments within the Aseptic Suite for grading and action by the QA Lead/ Chief Technician Aseptic Services and Clinical Trials as appropriate

Working within Aseptic Services Unit once every two weeks to keep up operator competencies and support the Chief Pharmacy Technician Aseptic Services and Clinical Trials with training and staff development.

Cross site working within the Pharmacy departments of RWT & Walsall Healthcare Trust as required.

Essential criteria
  • • Btec in Pharmaceutical science/ NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services/ Science Manufacturing Technician qualification or equivalent or Degree in an appropriate scientific discipline
  • • Registration with appropriate professional body
Desirable criteria
  • • Education / teaching / training qualifications
  • • National Accredited Checking Technician qualification / Product Approval qualification
  • • Leadership/management qualification or equivalent experience managing a team
  • • PTQA qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Proven experience working in a pharmacy or laboratory environment
  • • Experience working in a QA or QC environment
  • • Experience working in aseptic services
  • • Experience of training staff, supervising and monitoring performance
Desirable criteria
  • • Working within a licenced facility
  • • Experience of developing and implementing Standard operating procedures
  • • Experience of pharmaceutical microbiology
  • • Ability to demonstrate meticulous attention to detail
  • • Experience of managing a QMS
  • • Understanding of Risk Management
  • • Experience of performing root cause analysis
