Job overview

We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual with significant NHS experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data entry, database and spreadsheet management, and demonstrate exceptional attention to detail.

As a committed team member, you will bring a flexible approach and a positive, “can-do” attitude to your work. You will be comfortable working within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team and will play a key role in coordinating meetings and supporting the effective management of cancer patient pathways.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience working within the NHS

  • Strong data entry and database management skills

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and managing cancer patient pathways

  • Ability to follow escalation procedures when necessary

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Proficient in using Trust clinical systems such as PAS, CRIS, and the Somerset Cancer Registry

We are looking for someone who is passionate about patient care and committed to ensuring our cancer patients have the smoothest journey possible. Your contribution will directly support improved patient experiences and outcomes.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for monitoring cancer pathways across a range of specialties, ensuring that all patients are effectively tracked throughout their treatment journey. You will proactively identify and escalate delays to relevant clinical and managerial colleagues, challenging processes where necessary, to support the achievement of national cancer targets. You will update and maintain patient records on relevant cancer systems.

In addition the post holder will organise and prepare for regular MDT meetings across multiple cancer sites/specialties. Collate and distribute relevant clinical information (e.g., pathology, radiology, clinic letters) ahead of meetings. Ensure accurate and timely recording of MDT discussion outcomes in line with Trust policies and national standards. Attend MDT meetings and act as the key administrative support, taking live minutes and undertaking any actions.

Working for our organisation

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWB) serves Birmingham and the Black Country – one of the country’s most culturally diverse areas. It’s a friendly and welcoming place – a place where you can belong, and a place where you can grow.

We care for our patients, we care about our population, and we care about our people.

Our values – Ambition, Respect and Compassion – are at the heart of who we are. They guide us every step of the way; how we work with each other, and how we look after our patients and their families; how we respect and value the rich diversity of our team and our community.

Our Trust has always aspired to be more than a hospital, more than a healthcare provider. Our purpose is to “Improve the Life Chances and Health Outcomes of our Population.” It is what inspires, drives, and unites us every day. It’s what makes us unique.

We want working at SWB to feel like more than just a job. We want our Trust to be a place where you can feel you belong. A place where you feel happy, safe, and rewarded.
