Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWB) is seeking a Deputy Director of Finance to join our senior finance leadership team. This is a pivotal role acting as a strategic partner to the Director of Finance during a period of large-scale transformational change.

Main duties of the job
Job Purpose
The Deputy Director of Finance is a key member of the Trust’s senior leadership team, responsible for the day-to-day management of the Finance and Procurement directorate. This role ensures the delivery of statutory financial duties while the Trust undergoes large-scale transformational change. The post holder acts as a strategic partner to the Director of Finance, providing expert advice to those with management responsibilities across the Trust.
The Deputy Director of Finance will have a strong track record of delivery, be able to manage multiple projects and drive change. You will be able to lead and motivate teams effectively as well as building strong relationships with a range of stakeholders and partners. You will work closely with the Director of Finance and Associate Directors of Finance working as a team and will also act on the Director of Finances behalf in a wide range of settings as and when required.
The role will also include a substantive portfolio of duties; supporting the Director of Finance having strategic oversight of income and contracting and revenue planning and NOF finance risk management with NHS England.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Financial Management and Use of Resources
Financial Planning: Leading the successful coordination of the 10-year Long Term Financial Plan and the annual budget.
Efficiency Measures: Coordinating cash-releasing efficiency measures to support the Trust’s annual and multi-year Cost Improvement Programs (CIP)
Audit and Reporting: Ensuring monthly and annual accounts meet the highest professional standards and maintaining a regular dialogue with external auditors.
Compliance: Ensuring all financial policies comply with legislation and the Trust’s Standing Financial Instructions.
Costing, Income, and Contracting
Income Oversight: Providing leadership for the Income function, including planning and recovery maximisation.
Contract Negotiations: Leading financial negotiations with commissioners and ensuring NHS contract terms align with Trust objectives.
Activity Integration: Ensuring that income and activity planning are fully integrated with operational performance and delivery.
