Job overview
Are you interested in working within a Community Children's Therapies Team and also have a unique opportunity to be involved in established occupational therapy provision within a new neonatal service for infants and families?
Do you want to further develop your clinical and leadership skills in a range of clinical areas?
If so, we are looking to appoint Band 6 Occupational Therapists to work within our large, well established therapy team and a new team of Neonatal AHPs, to ensure infants and their families needing care get the best possible start. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of evidenced Occupational Therapy interventions at universal, targeted and specialised levels.
Whilst experience of working with early years children is desirable, we are a supportive, dynamic, forward thinking team who would be able to provide relevant training to promote your personal development.
You will work within one of our community bases with designated days to work within an area of specialism, including contributing to the assessment process for possible diagnosis of autism, the Neonatal Unit, Special Schools and Focus Provision, on a rotational basis.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for:
Assessing person, environmental and occupational components to support children's occupational performance and participation outcomes.
Administering and interpretation of standardised assessments to help inform potential clinical diagnosis and contributing to multi agency discussion around this.
Providing direct individual or small group intervention sessions to children and young people with a physical disability and / or movement problem.
Providing advice, support and training to parents, and colleagues in health and education settings, to underpin therapy recommendations and ensure these are integrated into the child's daily routine.
The completion of detailed written reports following assessment to outline children's needs and required level of support to enable them to fully participate in activities within school and at home.
The facilitation of student occupational therapy placements and support for newly qualifies staff working within the team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder:
Independently assesses, treats & evaluates the occupational performance needs of children and young people within the areas of self care, productivity (school work) and play & leisure, in particular those with complex difficulties or presentations.
Provides both direct and indirect intervention, advice and support; working within a multi-agency model in order to ensure that the holistic needs of children and young people are met. Completion of department clinical outcome measures is integral to client management.
May be responsible for the oversight of a locality caseload and supports staff of other bands to manage their own caseload.
Contributes to, and participates in the Children’s Therapies Service business plan, including the development of policies, project leadership as appropriate and the collection and analysis of statistical information, as appropriate, to ensure whole staff ownership and implementation of quality care.
Take an active part in departmental working parties
Identifies, delivers and develops packages of training in order to advise, educate and empower multi-disciplinary groups and families/carers to both prevent and remediate functional difficulties.
Will undertake a range of activities to develop others within professional meetings and via quality improvement sessions.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Has relevant degree / diploma in Occupational Therapy
- Has current registration with HCPC
- Has current UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
- Registration with BAOT
Desirable criteria
- Member of CYPF network
Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of post graduate clinical experience of working with children with a range of presentations
- Experience of managing and prioritising a caseload
- Experience of working with assistants, students, newly qualified therapists and others as appropriate
- Evidence of participation in the development and delivery of training to a variety of recipients
Desirable criteria
- Experience of using a 24 postural management approach.
- Postgraduate training in using Bobath approaches with children and young people.
- Postgraduate training in using sensory based interventions
- Experience in using and interpreting standardised assessments.
Knowledge
Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate training in use of bobath approaches with children
- Postgraduate training in using sensory approaches to support children
