Job overview
The Team at SWB Pharmacy are looking for enthusiastic and ambitious Rotational Pharmacy Assistants to join our friendly team to rotate working in the brand new, state of the art Midland Metropolitan University Hospital which is now open, our new Sheldon Block Pharmacy which is due to open later this year and also Sandwell Health Campus Pharmacy.
Band 3 - Rotational Pharmacy Assistant:
If you possess an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Pharmacy Services/equivalent and have successfully been offered this position after interview, you will enter this role at Band 3 as a Rotational Pharmacy Assistant.
This position will be suited to experienced Dispensers from community pharmacy who want to take the next step into their career or any Pharmacy Assistants from a hospital pharmacy background.
Band 2 Pharmacy ATO to Band 3 Rotational Pharmacy Assistant development opportunity:
For those applicants who do not possess an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Pharmacy services and are successful in the interview, you will be offered a Band 2 Pharmacy Assistant position which will be based in our Stores and Distribution areas within Pharmacy. In order for you to progress onto a Band 3 Rotational Pharmacy Assistant position, you will be required to successfully complete our in house Stores and Distribution Training pack (full training will be provided) and we will support you in obtaining an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Pharmacy Services.
Main duties of the job
Main duties of the Band 3 Rotational Pharmacy Assistant role (if you have an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Pharmacy services/equivalent):
Rotating into the following areas of Pharmacy on a rotational basis:
- Dispensary
- Clinical Ward Services
- Stores & Distribution
Main duties of the Band 2 Pharmacy Assistant - Stores & Distribution role (if you do not possess an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Pharmacy services):
1. Be based in the Pharmacy Stores & Distribution areas.
2. Receipting and booking in of Pharmacy deliveries
3. To ensure all pharmacy goods are stored safely in the correct location in line with stock control principles.
4. To load appropriate stock into the pharmacy robot and assist with troubleshooting basic errors where applicable after completion of appropriate training.
5. To maintain the cold chain of any refrigerated/freezer items and report any breaches of the cold chain to a senior member of the stores team to be investigated.
6. To maintain a clean and safe environment and ensure all equipment is maintained and used in the correct manner following Health and Safety regulations.
7. Top up medications in the Automated Drug Cabinets on the wards.
8. Picking and processing medication requests for hospital ward/clinic areas.
**Note: this role is not a dispensary based role and does not involve dispensing.**

Band 3:
You will be working under the direct supervision of Senior Pharmacy Assistants, Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists throughout all rotations.
Training will be provided in all rotational areas to ensure you are competent in all aspects of the role.
There will be a requirement to work across all of our sites on a rotational basis, including the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.
You will require an NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent) for this role.

Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy services/equivalent - for Band 3
Desirable criteria
- Working towards an NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services/equivalent - for Band 3
- Be proficient in reading and writing to GCSE or equivalent standard
Written skills
Essential criteria
- Able to present written and verbal information in a clear and logical manner
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience as an assistant or community based dispenser required - for Band 3
Desirable criteria
- To be able to handle safely and competently pharmaceutical equipment and medicines used in the dispensing process.
- Experience of working within a pharmaceutical team.
- Working knowledge of a broad range of medicines and their safety issues.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- A working knowledge of HASAW and COSHH regulations
- Legal requirements for dispensing and supplying medicines - for Band 3
Desirable criteria
- Portfolio that reflects personal development
Communication/Verbal skills
Essential criteria
- Be able to speak and understand English without the risk of misunderstanding
- Be able to provide patients advice on issues relating to their medicines and pharmaceuticals
- Able to empathise to patients, carers, visitors and staff
