Job overview

We are looking for well-organized, motivated, enthusiastic, friendly individuals with excellent communication skills to join our Phlebotomy Service. Your work will be to provide front line care to hospital inpatients, outpatients, community clinics, GP surgeries, and Mental Health clinics to name a few. 

You will be working  within a team, be able to use your initiative and be willing to acquire new skills and knowledge. Attention to detail will be a key characteristic. You must be able to work in a busy environment and have a strongly held commitment to high standards of service delivery. 

Phlebotomy at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Hospitals is rapidly expanding we currently consist of  46 phlebotomists  with the back up of our admin team to support the appointment system who work at different levels this ranges from apprentices, Phlebotomists, dedicated Paediatric Phlebotomists to management who all thrive in the welcoming atmosphere that is friendly, diverse, supportive and progressive.

 

Main duties of the job

To obtain blood samples from in patients, out patients, community clinics and  to cover A&E working when required.

You would be required to cover  the Black Country Mental Health Trusts and Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust.

You will be required to obtain venous and capillary  samples from children of any age, full training will be provided. 

IT skills are required to use our Unity and Systmone appointment system.

This role is ideally suited for someone who is caring, friendly and has an extremely steady hand. You will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work and communicate with a large team across multiple sections.

Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Must have experience of working with the public.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in clinical areas of the hospital e.g. nursing.
  • Previous phlebotomy experience
  • Previous experience of working in a hospital laboratory

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Must have gained GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths.
Desirable criteria
  • Member of the National Association of Phlebotomists.
  • NVQ 3 Phlebotomy or equivalent

Other

Essential criteria
  • Full UK Driving License.
