Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Anaesthetist (2 posts)


These are replacement posts and attract at least 10 Programmed Activities (PA’s) including on call duties and 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA’s). There is extensive elective and emergency theatre activity, so wide experience in general anaesthesia for a variety of surgical disciplines is essential and good experience of regional anaesthesia is desirable. Wide experience in paediatric anaesthesia is an advantage. The successful applicant will need to demonstrate enthusiastic interest together with appropriate experience in regional anaesthesia and advanced airway skills. Full registration with the GMC and possession of the FRCA (or equivalent) are requirements of the post.


The post holder is expected to participate in the general on call anaesthesia service covering both New Cross Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital.


The Critical Care Services Directorate has undergone rapid expansion over the past few years, alongside the developments in surgical services that include robotically assisted laparoscopic surgery & enhanced recovery. The Critical Care Services Directorate has a team of 50 consultant anaesthetists/ intensivists together with secretarial & office support facilities. This post is based at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton which has 21 theatres, dedicated Day-Case Unit & Pre-Operative Assessment Unit.


Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust provides clinical services to Cannock Chase Hospital with seven theatres where elective orthopaedic surgery is carried out. The Directorate is known for its support of and participation in educational activities within the West Midlands region and welcomes those wishing to develop the next generation of consultants.


Wolverhampton is a modern industrial city situated on the north western fringe of the West Midlands conurbation. It borders the beautiful countryside of Shropshire and Staffordshire. Travel from Wolverhampton to most parts of the country is excellent due to good road, rail & domestic/ international air services.
