Job overview

We are offering an exciting opportunity for 2 Senior Clinical Fellows in Diabetes and Endocrinology Medicine to join our forward thinking and ambitious Trust and Diabetes Directorate.  You will join an enthusiastic and cohesive team, based at the New Cross Hospital who work together as a large multi-disciplinary department to deliver high quality care to a population of over 450,000 people in Wolverhampton, and the surrounding region.

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is one of the largest acute and community providers in the West Midlands.  You will be joining an established team of 12 Consultants and a dedicated team of Nurse Specialists included 2 Advanced Diabetes Specialist Nurses and 8 Diabetes Specialist Nurses who form a rota covering emergency, ward in-reach and outpatients across New Cross Hospital, Cannock Chase Hospital and West Park Hospital together with community services.  

The Diabetes and Endocrinology team are based in the Diabetes Centre which is located on the New Cross Hospital Site in a purpose built centre for patients with diabetes and other endocrine disorders. The centre is the main base for the Diabetes and Endocrinology Consultants and their secretaries as well as the outpatients department for the same conditions.  It is also the base for the integrated diabetes specialist nursing team and diabetes specialist podiatry team.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be working with a multi-disciplinary team of Consultants, Specialist Trainees, Clinical Fellows, Core Trainees and Foundation Year Trainees.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To work appropriately and effectively within your clinical team within the limits of your competency under clinical and educational supervision.

In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, and commensurate with your grade, to play a full part in the supervision and support of other members of your team including more junior medical staff .

In conjunction with colleagues, to take responsibility for the best use of departmental staffing and other resources to ensure the maximum efficiency of the department.

In conjunction with colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met and to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.

To accept a duty to other staff and patients to ensure that any risks, incidents and hazards are reported and managed appropriately.
In conjunction with colleagues, to play a full part in the rota for the department and to provide cover for colleagues in respect of periods of leave and, under agreed circumstances, to be available to provide emergency cover.

To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full registration and a license to practice with the GMC
Desirable criteria
  • Higher Medical Degree
  • LS/APLS
  • MRCP

Education and Training

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of a commitment to education and teaching

Management Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate effective team working skills
  • Time management/organisational ability. An example may be they have developed and run training programmes.
  • Proven knowledge of systems and process of NHS or equivalent.

  • Able to travel to meet the requirements of the post

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 2 years of post qualification experience
  • Management of acute and chronic general medical diseases under supervision
Desirable criteria
  • Presented evidence of experience to date supported by references
  • up to date ALS and ATLS certificate
  • Attainment of the UK foundation programme or an equivalent level of experience
  • Senior Fellows will have 6 months in the chosen speciality minimum equivalent to ST 1/2
