Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a pharmacist to join the dynamic Rheumatology team at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, in a Band 8a role.
This position offers a wealth of unique clinical and professional development opportunities within both the Rheumatology and Pharmacy Departments. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional pharmaceutical care and services, working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to support optimal patient outcomes.
The individual will act as a clinical role model within the Pharmacy department and supervise junior and pharmacy support staff . The post holder will be responsible for the delivery and further development of pharmacy services to the Rheumatology Directorate.
The postholder will work across all sites at RWT as needed to support the Rheumatology directorate and pharmacy.
At RWT we are passionate about developing and training our Pharmacy workforce and identifying new ways of working. This role is a unique opportunity to further develop your leadership abilities, whilst still maintaining a high level of clinical practice. You will have the support of an experienced Pharmacy Leadership Team. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop their own skills through mentorship and training and education.
We have well established links with the Rheumatology clinical teams and work closely to provide clinical support for our patients to achieve optimal care.
Main duties of the job
Some key duties will include the following:
To provide clinical and directorate support to the rheumatology department.
Support the Principal pharmacist for rheumatology in the provision of outpatient clinics including biologics tapering clinics
To provide specialist clinical pharmacy advice to rheumatology patients and liaise with the consultants and nursing teams to support safe and appropriate prescribing in this patient group.
To continuously monitor the drug expenditure against budgets for the Rheumatology Directorate.
To manage any rheumatology related switch schemes that may arise, in conjunction with the wider pharmacy and rheumatology teams ensuring as far as possible a safe, efficient and comprehensive service.
To work under the supervision of the Principal Pharmacist for Rheumatology

Qualification
Essential criteria
- Pharmacist registered with the GPhC
- Post Graduate Clinical Diploma or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Independent Prescriber qualification or working towards this qualification
- Additional postgraduate qualifications
Experience and skills
Essential criteria
- Significant post registrational experience
- Knowledge and experience of working within rheumatology and/or with biologic agents
- Able to work in multidisciplinary teams and independently.
- Experience in supervising, training and assessing staff
Desirable criteria
- Experience working in an outpatient clinic

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
