Job overview

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and forward‑thinking Senior Clinical Pharmacist to join our Acute & Emergency Medicine team, working in a unique joint role that also includes a Senior Lecturer appointment with the University of Wolverhampton.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinical pharmacist who is passionate about delivering high‑quality patient care in fast‑paced emergency settings, while also shaping the next generation of pharmacists through teaching, supervision and academic leadership.

As a key member of the Emergency Services Group, you will provide advanced clinical pharmacy services across the Emergency Department, Acute Medical Unit and associated areas. You will work as an independent prescriber, contribute to multidisciplinary ward rounds, and lead on medicines optimisation for complex and acutely unwell patients.

Alongside your clinical responsibilities, you will hold a Senior Lecturer role within the School of Pharmacy & Life Sciences. You will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, support clinical placements, supervise students, and participate in scholarly activity that enhances the academic profile of the School.

This dual role offers an excellent balance of frontline clinical practice, education, research and service development.

Main duties of the job

Deliver advanced clinical pharmacy services in Acute & Emergency Medicine, including independent prescribing, MDT ward rounds, complex medicines optimisation, and safe discharge planning across the Emergency Department, AMU and wider emergency care pathways.

Support and oversee clinical placements, including supervising students in practice, acting as a Designated Prescribing Practitioner where required, and contributing to the quality assurance of placement learning

Participate in curriculum and programme development, including leading aspects of modules, contributing to course review, collaborating with academic colleagues, and supporting wider School activities such as recruitment and student support.

Lead medicines governance and safety initiatives by developing and reviewing guidelines, PGDs and policies; undertaking audits; monitoring drug expenditure; and supporting evidence‑based, cost‑effective prescribing.
