Are you a newly qualified or experienced band 5 Speech and Language Therapist?
We are passionate about staff development and have a well established senior team.
This rotational position and excellent NQP programme supports continuing development in multiple areas and would suit a newly qualified therapist or an experienced band 5. We have established management and peer support for those with more experience. Our rotations include acute stroke, outpatients, community including stroke and general acute. Initially with a focus on embedding communication skills the service then moves on to develop and support skills in dysphagia.
The adult service has a wealth of experience with teams in the areas of critical care, acute stroke, acute inpatients, rehab, head and neck and voice, community stroke, CNRT and community.
We have access to instrumental dysphagia assessment, a supportive admin team, embedded supervision, and support structures for both professional development and wellbeing. We benefit from being part of a large SLT service which includes children’s services allowing opportunities for cross-service development projects. The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is a teaching organisation and CPD is both well supported and actively encouraged. There is very strong AHP leadership and opportunities to participate in research.
Main duties of the job
To provide a Speech and Language Therapy expertise to adults with acquired communication difficulties commensurate with experience and training.
To work with adults with dysphagia commensurate with experience and training.
To manage a defined Speech and Language Therapy caseload independently.
To participate in the development and delivery of training to others.
To supervise Speech and Language Therapy Support Practitioners, volunteers and students.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To demonstrate developing clinical skills.
To communicate complex condition related information from assessment to clients, carers, families, multidisciplinary team members and other professionals
To work closely with clients, carers, families and multidisciplinary team members to ensure decision making relevant to client management
To be responsible for assessment, differential diagnosis, formulation of treatment plans, writing assessment reports, providing appropriate intervention and evaluation of treatment outcomes for each individual client in respect of communication and/or and swallowing difficulties with access to a senior colleague.
To negotiate with carers, clients and others around individual case management
To work with dysphagic clients commensurate with experience and training.
To access support from senior colleagues in respect of communication and/or feeding and swallowing difficulties.
To be able to identify areas for own personal/professional development evidenced by personal development plan/professional portfolio developed within the appraisal and KSF framework.
To comply with the professional guidelines of the RCSLT and HCPC.
To be aware of and adhere to the Speech and Language Therapy Service Plan.
To adhere to local clinical guidelines
To contribute to discussions pertaining to proposed service delivery/policy development.
To explain the role of the Speech and Language Therapist
To maintain up to date and accurate case notes in line with professional guidelines and Trust policies.
To work independently with access to supervision as per departmental, Trust and RCSLT guidelines.
To be accountable for own professional actions
To recognise own professional boundaries and to seek advice and support when necessary.
To be aware of and adhere to current legislative and employer procedures relating to the post.
To accept clinical support and advice from designated mentor/senior clinician
To manage a caseload independently.

Academic and Experience
Essential criteria
- As recognised and required by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
- Registered with HCPC
- Member of RCSLT
- Experience of working within the NHS as a student or in a substantive postPre-qualification / post registration experience with adults with communication and/or swallowing disorders
