Are you passionate about working with adults in acute stroke? Are you organised and looking to work within a multidisciplinary team?
We are looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our inpatient team.
You will be part of the team delivering communication and dysphagia services on the acute stroke ward at new Cross Hospital. The SLT acute stroke team comprises of SLT staff from band 7 to band 3 and is embedded as part of the wider MDT. We also provide community and rehab inpatient services and are able to provide a smooth transition for patients across all areas of service.
We have access to instrumental dysphagia assessment, a supportive admin team, embedded supervision and support structures for both professional development and wellbeing. As part of a large teaching organisation, CPD is very well supported and actively encouraged.
The Rehab and Community team sit within a wider adult service with access to a wealth of experience and support in the areas of critical care, acute stroke, acute inpatients, head and neck and voice, community strok and CNRT.
We also benefit from being part of a large SLT service which includes children’s services allowing opportunities for cross-service development projects. We have very strong AHP leadership within the Trust.
Main duties of the job
This is a senior post with clinical responsibility for adults with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties following stroke.
The post holder will work in the in-patient team delivering SLT to acute patients but may be required to work in other settings on an occasional basis.
The post holder will be a member of the multidisciplinary stroke team.
The post holder will -
assess, diagnose and manage own specialist caseloads of complex patients as an autonomous clinician in accordance with Professional Code of Conduct and Health and Care Professions Council Regulations.
participate in the development and delivery of training to others.
provide support to Speech and Language Therapy team members regarding clients presenting with complex communication and swallowing disorders associated with stroke and acquired neurological conditions.
supervise Speech and Language Therapy Support Practitioners and volunteers.
provide student placements.
contribute to the induction, mentoring and support of other less experienced staff.
