Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a small specialist team within NBT.  The post holder will have responsibility for participating in all aspects of clinical, non-clinical and teaching work within the acute pain service.

This opportunity will enable the successful candidate to gain experience and knowledge in acute pain management whilst working autonomously. 

The candidate will be provided with appropriate training enabling them to develop their role within the team.

 

 

Main duties of the job

Clinical Nurse Specialist, Acute Pain Team

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Acute Pain Service at North Bristol NHS Trust for an enthusiastic and highly motivated nurse with an interest in pain management to join the team of clinical nurse specialists.

This opportunity will enable the nurse to gain experience and knowledge in acute pain management. The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills, be committed to providing a high standard of clinical care and will participate in daily pain management rounds, trust wide teaching and service development.

It is essential the successful candidate is able to work well in a team, as well as independently, prioritizing their own workload effectively and be committed to further professional development relevant to this role.

The candidate must be a Registered Nurse with significant acute experience at Band 5 or above, preferably in a surgical or critical care environment.

This is a full time post 37.5 hrs  band 6. 

Working for our organisation

The acute pain team within NBT are dedicated & hardworking.  This is a 6 day service working Monday to Saturday.

We work closely as a team between both nurses and acute pain anaesthetic consultants. 

Developmental and training opportunities are available for team members both internally & externally. 

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

provide direct patient care in acute pain management

participate in clinical decisions surrounding pain management techniques for individual patients and plan treatments of care for individual patients

facilitate delivery of high quality care with effective documentation and high standards of practice

development of student and qualified nursing and medical staff

participation in regular teaching programme

maintain and develop effective communication between wards, departments and specialities.

accountability for own practice and responsibility for maintaining and improving professional knowledge and competence. 

act as a resource within a multidisciplinary team when prescribing pain management techniques.

development and promotion of the acute pain service as a resource for all members of the healthcare team.

Experience

  • significant experience band 5 or above
  • acute surgical / critical care experience

  • Experience in pain management
