Job overview

The division of Anaesthesia, surgery, critical care and renal is fuelled by a passion for what we do; with breadth and depth of expertise, working towards the same goal and putting the patient at the start and heart of our care.

As a Clinical Governance Lead for the division you will use your healthcare knowledge, skills and experience to promote, oversee and be influential in ensuring the consistency of high standards regarding the investigation and management of incidents and the identification and articulation of risks. 

With your experience of dealing with patient safety, quality improvement and governance you will be responsible for supporting and leading complex patient safety incident investigations to include duty candour, drafting reports and the collation of statements and service level data.

 

Main duties of the job

  • Provide high quality leadership, role modelling and develop skills to act as an expert resource to clinical and operational teams in relation to all aspects of divisional clinical quality and governance.
  • Support the chair of the monthly Clinical Governance meetings with accountability for high quality agenda papers and meeting outputs.
  • Support/ lead complex Patient Safety Incident Investigations.
  • Provide cross cover and support as needed for other members of the team as necessary.
  • Undertake other such duties commensurate with the seniority and experience of the post.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of all aspects of clinical governance
  • Understanding of the principles and practice of the legal framework relevant to risk management, investigation and mitigation in the context of governance in the NHS
  • Proven presentation skills
  • Understanding of processes of standard setting, assessment and assurance within the NHS

Education/Training/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Graduate level of education and/or relevant professional qualification
  • Investigation and Risk Management training or relevant level of experience
Desirable criteria
  • Master level qualification (or working towards same)
  • Leadership qualification (ILM or equivalent)
  • Clinical Qualification (RN/AHP/Medical)
