Job overview

Are you an experienced Critical Care Nurse?

Are you looking to work in a state of the art Intensive Care Unit that has a strong reputation for providing exceptional health care?

If the answer is yes then this is the position for you.

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) is looking to recruit a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse.

NBT is a progressive and ambitious provider of health care services, delivering care to a large local population, with specialist regional services for major trauma, neurosciences, vascular, urology, plastics and burns, orthopaedics and renal services. With a turnover of £550m and 9,000 staff, our clinical teams have built a strong reputation for exceptional healthcare. Our acute services moved into a brand new, state of the art, hospital building in May 2014. This new 850 bed facility at the Southmead site offers patients single rooms with en-suite facilities, greatly improving privacy and dignity and reducing the spread of infection.

The 48 bedded ICU is now one of the busiest units in the country with a team of over 300 staff treating more than 2000 critically ill patients each year. Southmead ICU cares for emergency and elective patients from all medical and surgical specialities except cardiac, ENT and paediatrics.

Main duties of the job

This is an opening for a dynamic, forward thinking individual to join our highly focused and talented team who pride themselves on delivering excellent, high quality and safe patient care which is reflected in our national profile. We are looking for an experienced, proactive and confident clinical practitioner who is keen to develop effective leadership skills, assume responsibility and demonstrate a commitment to consistently maintaining high clinical standards. We are fully committed to training and development. The unit has a dedicated education team and supports staff undertaking specialist courses such as Critical Care, Burns and Neurosciences. We offer a structured induction and run a Foundation Programme for new nurses to ICU, supporting them as they join the team. There are two simulation training suites located within the unit. The successful candidate will be expected to actively participate in teaching nursing staff, both pre and post registration.

In return we can give you the opportunity to develop the clinical and leadership skills required to progress your career. We can offer you a new challenge in a forward thinking environment with opportunities to continue your professional development.
